Executive Director’s Message

It has been an extraordinary year for the Lancaster County Housing and Redevelopment Authorities.  We experienced significant successes in 2005, but we also had considerable challenges due to budget cuts in both the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program and the Community Development Block Grant Program.  As a result of our success with Clipper Magazine Stadium we have been engaged with other agencies and organizations to work on some exciting projects in the City and County that will continue the revitalization efforts underway in Lancaster and the communities of Lancaster County

Our staff has responded extremely well to our changing environment.  Our success in 2005 is directly tied to their dedication to serve the community and those who are struggling to maintain their families, their homes, and to find affordable housing.  The simple fact that we, as an agency, have taken on the additional responsibilities generated by new partnerships and maintained our level of performance with existing programs, without adding new staff, speaks highly of the staff’s commitment to excellence.

2005 was my sixth year as the Executive Director of the Authorities.  I believe it has been one of our most challenging but most rewarding years.  I want to express my appreciation to the Board of Directors - Cindy Stewart, Edward Hollinger, Ralph Murray, Neil Kinsey and Miriam Fletcher, for their ongoing support.  Events of this past year have given me a special appreciation for the style of leadership they have provided to the Authorities.  Their consistent guidance has enabled the Authorities to grow and continue to excel at what we do.

The Authorities’ vision is “to be a catalyst for community revitalization and affordable housing efforts in Lancaster County.”  In 2005 we certainly focused our activities on that vision and we look forward to an exciting 2006!
